Moshood Abiola National Stadium, formerly known as National Stadium Abuja, is Nigeria’s premier national multi-purpose sports venue located in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja. Officially opened in 2003, the stadium was constructed for the 8th All-Africa Games and renamed in 2019 in honour of Moshood Abiola. With a seating capacity of approximately 60,491 spectators, it hosts football, athletics, cultural events, and national celebrations.
The stadium serves as the home venue of the Nigeria national football team (Super Eagles) and has hosted FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, international fixtures, and continental competitions. Designed to international standards, the venue features a natural grass football pitch, athletics track, covered stands, corporate suites, media facilities, floodlights, and spectator amenities.
The wider sports complex includes indoor sports facilities, a gymnasium, swimming pool, training areas, and additional event infrastructure. Following rehabilitation efforts, Moshood Abiola National Stadium continues supporting national sporting programmes and large-scale events while remaining one of Nigeria’s most important sports landmarks. Its modern facilities and strategic location strengthen Abuja’s position as a destination for major sporting competitions and entertainment events. The venue provides opportunities for athletes, supporters, organizers, and visitors through world-class experiences at one of Africa’s leading multi-purpose sports facilities today.
