CAF Champions League Preliminaries;-The heat of competition in the CAF Champions League preliminary rounds has yielded its verdict. As the return legs of the first round concluded on August 26, five teams, Power Dynamo, Young Africans, Etoile Sportive du Sahel, Jwaneng, and UD Songo, successfully secured their passage to the next round. This follows the earlier qualification of Al Hilal, Orlando Pirates, Al-Merrikh, and APR FC Bumamuru, forming a diverse lineup of contenders for the coveted title.

Power Dynamo Overcome African Stars

In a thrilling encounter, Zambia’s Power Dynamo triumphed against African Stars from Namibia with a 1-0 victory in the second leg. Boyeli etched his name on the score sheet through a penalty kick (30th minute). The crucial away goal scored in their 2-1 first-leg defeat paved the way for Power Dynamo’s qualification to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.

UD Songo Secures Narrow Victory

Mozambique’s UD Songo secured their advancement after a narrow first-leg win at home (1-0) against Eswatini’s Green Mamba. The return leg ended in a 1-1 draw on foreign soil, solidifying UD Songo’s progress in the competition.

Young Africans Shine Bright

Young Africans from Tanzania displayed prowess in a commanding performance against Ali Sabieh of Djibouti, sealing qualification with a resounding 5-1 victory in the return leg. Their earlier triumph (0-2) in the first leg had already positioned them favorably for advancement.

Etoile Sportive du Sahel’s Stalwart Display

Etoile Sportive du Sahel from Tunisia continued their journey with a second victory, confirming their place in the next round of the CAF Champions League. With a 1-0 win at home against CS Constantine, Abdelli’s 16th-minute goal secured their passage. Their earlier triumph (1-2) in the away fixture fortified their bid.

Jwaneng Galaxy’s Steadfast Qualification

Jwaneng Galaxy from Botswana secured their qualification after a two-legged battle with Vipers. Although losing 2-1 in the return leg, their decisive 2-0 victory in the first leg propelled them into the next round. An intense extra-time battle against the Ugandans ultimately confirmed Jwaneng’s place.

FAR’s Convincing Victory

FAR from Morocco secured an emphatic qualification by outclassing ASKO of Togo. Following their away victory (0-1), they continued their dominance with a resounding 7-0 win in the return leg, underscoring their rightful claim to the next round.

In addition, Orlando Pirates progressed to the second round after triumphing over Djabal FC of Comoros with a 3-0 win in the return leg. Al Merrikh from Sudan secured their passage with a goalless draw against Otoho d’Oyo from Congo Brazza, building on their 1-1 away draw. APR FC from Rwanda sealed their advancement by defeating Gaadiidka from Somalia 2-0 in the return leg, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

As the dust settles on this round of the CAF Champions League, these ten teams stand ready to write the next chapter in their pursuit of football glory.
